A Great Reason or Three for Travel Insurance
A friend of mine in who lives in the South of Spain is visited by relatives on a regular basis. Since getting married last year he has not had as many visitors due to the fact that everyone was there for the wedding. However on his families first visit since the wedding he was unaware that they would become a walking advertisement for Travel Insurance.
My friend has an older sister who has a baby of 4 months and a very nice fiance. They were visiting along with his mother and father and staying in a very nice rental villa which is more than just a little comfortable.
So why would this turn into a advertisement for travel insurance, well lets start with the baby, poor little Millie was struck down with a bad case of bronchitis after being in Spain for just 2 days and was very unhappy. Well this was a trip to an English speaking doctor who charged for the visit, the prescription and the and the meds. Oh yes and to top it all off she had to go back again for a check up which again was more to pay out.
No my friend isn't the meanest person on earth he realized that the baby was the most important thing in the world and that she would need to be seen by any doctor but the fact that it all had to be paid for up front was a little worrying. However this was just the beginning of the story.
My friends sister slipped on a step with two days of the holiday to go and broke her ankle which was not only painful but expensive as they had to pay the bill before they left the hospital. Again another expense but it got worse than that.
The doctor would not let his sister fly due to the fact that she had given birth within 6 months and the potential risk of a blood clot on the flight home was a risk that was not worth taking. This was to cause a problem as his sister, her wonderfully patient fiance and little baby Millie had to stay another week!
This means more flights, more accommodation and more medical care daily! So when they checked that everything was covered by their travel insurance it was obvious the relief that it is all covered and that they will be reimbursed when they return home. So if this isn't a good advert for travel insurance I don't know what it!
